  1. Bacterial Infection Diagnosis – Able to determine the presence of a (non-specific) bacterial infection through sample testing (usually blood or saliva, but could be others).
  
  2. Viral (cold & flu based) Infection Diagnosis – Able to determine the presence of a specific viral infection through a saliva sample. Viruses that represent the highest level of incidence: Rhinovirus, Coronavirus, Adenovirus, Respiratory Syncytial and Flu A/B.
  
  3. Strep A Infection Diagnosis – A specific class of the bacterial test above. Strep A tests already exist, and the need here is to improve considerably the ease-of-use, sampling and increased specificity and selectivity.
  
  4. Flu A/B Infection Diagnosis – A specific class of the viral test above. Flu A/B tests are very useful, especially during outbreaks, but are currently too complex for ease-of-use.
  
  Tests should ideally be in a platform that allows ease of use by Healthcare Professionals (Mandatory), Pharmacists / Nurses (Preferred) and consumers (Desirable). It is expected that the platform will be based on conventional Lateral Flow Device technology (LFD), but the company is open to other formats.
  
  Tests should preferably be all-in-one, one use and disposable. The potential for an electronic reader is viable, but cost implications may make this route a challenge.

  We are working with a European designer and manufacturer of electrical solutions for commercial, housing, healthcare, governmental and industrial applications. They are actively searching for innovative technology which enables the powering of everyday devices without the need to plug them in.
  
  Current wireless power technology is centred on providing solutions for small devices or those in close proximity - e.g. placing a mobile phone on a charging pad, charging of tooth brushes etc. However, this either relies on collaboration with the manufacturers of the target devices (e.g. batteries) or is restricted to low power short range transfer.
  
  Our client is interested in continuously powering every-day devices (such as PCs, TVs, etc.), simultaneously and within a room environment. Enabling technology will allow them to provide products that could replace electrical infrastructure (such as wiring, sockets, trunking, etc.) for offices, temporary meeting spaces and the home environment.   Clostridium difficile is a spore-forming bacterium that is a costly problem for healthcare environments, causing patients to suffer diarrhoea of varying severity. When it encounters unfavourable conditions (such as being outside the body), it forms an endospore that has increased resistance and enables it to remain viable for many months. The spores are easily transmitted between contaminated surfaces or hands by patients and/or healthcare workers and are not destroyed by most chemical disinfectants or antiseptics. Whilst some solutions (e.g.10% bleach) retain some ability to inactivate the C.difficile spores, the aggressive nature (odour, degradation of surfaces and effect on skin) means they are limited in their application.
  
  The complex and protective structure of the C.difficile spore contribute to its environmental and chemical stability. The spore core and outer layers (i.e. coat, cortex) contain different elements such as proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and peptidoglycan that protect against stresses such as ultraviolet and chemicals. The spore protects the bacteria until it senses specific effectors (germinants) and environmental conditions are appropriate, allowing the C.difficile vegetative (actively growing) bacteria to emerge (i.e. germinate).
  
  Solution
  Potential solutions may come from commercial development, academic research or defence applications (e.g. decontamination / protection against anthrax), and could include means of:
  
  - Treating the spores that eliminates the potential for infectivity
  - Rendering bacteria spores susceptible to conventional disinfectants that are already effective against vegetative bacteria
  - Treating the bacteria or spore so this it is irreversibly locked into its spore form
  
  The client is keen to find safe, effective and easy to use solutions that demonstrate the following criteria:
  
  - Data to support high level of efficacy within short contact/exposure time (aim is for solution capable of achieving 4+ logs (>99.99%) of C.difficile spore inactivation in <60 seconds)
  - Acceptable safety and toxicity profiles (ideally skin compatible)
  - Materials compatibility (no degradation of materials/surfaces in healthcare environment)
  - Acceptable cost-in-use (solutions with realistic cost estimates for high volume applications)
  - Acceptable aesthetics (e.g. odor profile)
  - Established intellectual property coverage and a limited regulatory path
  - Proven efficacy against a current regulatory standard
  
  We appreciate some solutions may not yet fulfill all of the above (e.g. 3 log inactivation at 10mins), so are happy to review opportunities that may be at an early stage of development or could benefit from commercial involvement. Products could include conventional wet disinfectants (e.g. spray, wipe, surface saturation), non-permanent coatings applied by end user, or devices / processes that physically treat and protect surfaces / skin / rooms. Chemical-/biological- based solutions or those with consumable element are of most interest.

This activity causes alteration of the food by metabolization of its nutrients modifying composition, stability and organoleptic properties. Moreover, lyophilization is a very well established method for the long-term storage of bacteria. The metabolic activity of the lyophilized bacteria is practically null but extremely sensitive to the presence of water and oxygen. Because of that the incorporation of probiotic bacteria to liquid food or food with high water activity conserved at room termperature is still a challenge for functional food industry.
  
  Presented solution would allow to produce particles of microencapsulated bacteria which would protect them from contact with water and oxygen, allowing its use into high activity of water or liquid food matrices. Particles must be of a size below 100microm so that it is not easily detectable by the consumer.
  
  Several methods of microencapsulation of probiotic bacteria have been reported and include spray drying, extrusion, emulsion and phase separation. None of these reported methods however, has resulted in the large numbers of shelfstable, viable probiotic bacterial cells necessary for use in industry for development of new probiotic products. Between the process of encapsulation and the time of preservation of probiotic bacteria in the liquid matrix loss of viability must not exceed an order of magnitude.   The hand is the number one path that spreads infection. Humans constantly touch objects and rub skin and mucous membranes around the eyes, nose, and mouth. Bacteria and viruses easily make the trip in both directions.
  
  We want to interrupt that duplex transmission at the hand, thus preventing the spread of infection. And we would like to do this in ways that are soothing to the skin of the hand -- for example, ways that won't cause skin chapping or chafing the way that frequent hand-washing will. We're seeking to offer these qualities in a product that is more than simply an "improved" formula. We want easily differentiated systems and techniques.
  
  For example, hand cleanliness is a major component of the problem. However, simply offering another alcohol-based hand-sanitizing product is not satisfactory to us for several reasons: There are many on the market, they may have an objectionable odor, and in some cases, they are flammable. People must make a special effort to use them --an effort they may not be willing to make as frequently as necessary.
  
  Classic soap-and-water approaches are not satisfactory either, as residue needs to be washed off. Soaps strip the lipids from the skin surface and may cause roughening; water can expose the skin to chapping, chafing, or cracking, especially in cold weather. In either the case of alcohol-based sanitizers or soap-and-water washing, compliance is an issue. People generally do not sanitize their hands frequently enough. They continue to touch objects, and the cycle of infection transmission remains unbroken.
  
  We're looking for a method, device, or ingredient that will kill, remove, repel, and continue to provide residual effects against hand-borne bacteria, viruses, and spores. We're looking for 3 orders of magnitude reduction in hand-borne bacteria.
  
  Additionally, we're looking for new ways of delivering the actives that enhance efficacy, offer a broader killing spectrum, are milder or gentler to the hands and skin, and offer improvements in environmental profile.
  
  In your proposed solution, consider the issue of compliance: When and where is it convenient to sanitize one's hands? Convenience is a big determinant of whether people get the benefit of clean hands. Consider delivery: Should the method consist of a gel, a liquid, a solid, or some other state? Should the solution include a device? Consider how a consumer can be certain that his hands are clean; what cue would he look for? And consider potential packaging issues: Packaging for your disinfection solution may be unique, but if it must be too costly, it may make no financial sense to provide that solution.
  
  The method we're seeking probably does not include a new active (although if your solution does include a new active, we still may wish to consider it).
  
  At minimum, you should have some preliminary data on your proposed solution showing that it is effective.
  
  CONSTRAINTS
  
  o Different from those solutions currently on the market.
  
  o Simple for the consumer to use; easy compliance so hands are kept clean.

Your solution may be an ingredient (or group of ingredients) that provides rich foam at low cost, thus allowing us to use less of a more expensive ingredient (such as a surfactant). Your solution may be an ingredient or set of ingredients compatible with our existing surfactant systems, or it could be a complete system into which we can add our custom fragrances and colors.
  
  Mildness also is a factor prized by consumers; but mild surfactants are the most expensive. Your solution may be even more appropriate if it renders harsher surfactants more mild, as well as lowering overall costs.
  
  Even better, if your solution offers a sturdy, robust combination of ingredients that allows us to apply the formulation to a number of product lines and different product directions -- by including perfumes, preservatives, and oils, for example. The solution should have a stable viscosity profile and be amenable to easy viscosity modification. Ideally, the solution will be capable of suspending particles.

  We are seeking new ways of delivering ibuprofen topically. These methods can be chemical, mechanical, or other. The objective is rapid penetration of the active through the skin to the underlying capillaries and the blood stream. By using topical delivery, lower doses can attain the same efficacy because the active does not have to pass through the liver.

  BACKGROUND
  Topical applications of ibuprofen generally appear in gels, creams, or sprays, but any semisolid or liquid formulation is of interest. We will prefer more consumer-friendly approaches over less-friendly approaches. For example, a patch is more costly to develop and more complicated for a user to apply than is a quantity of gel squeezed from a tube.
  Used topically, effective concentrations of ibuprofen range from 5% to 10%. Your novel delivery method may require a greater or lesser concentration. We want to achieve rapid penetration - about 15 minutes to deliver an effective dose (and no more than an hour, which is about the time required for delivery via ingestion).
  The ibuprofen molecule is particularly large for use in topical and transdermal delivery. While you may not have experience with the ibuprofen molecule, you may have experience delivering other large molecules in this way.
  We are currently NOT seeking approaches that involve inhalation or using the buccal membranes of the mouth.
  For this need, early-stage technologies without clinical data are less of interest. Ideally, your solutions will already be on the market outside of North America and have existing IP coverage.
  
  CONSTRAINTS
  You should have Phase II clinical data that supports your claims. Earlier clinical data is also of interest.
  Technology must be available for North American distribution.

  Many consumer, biopharmaceutical, food, agricultural products consist of complex liquid formulations containing proteins such as various enzymes, (e.g, lipase, protease, amalyase, lactase, catalase etc) in combination with polymers, surfactants, sequestrants etc. Engineering the stability of these proteins in such a complex formulation is highly challenging as it not only depends upon the interaction of these proteins with other formulation components but is also linked to formulation conditions such as ionic strength, pH etc. When combinations of different proteins are present, this makes the problem even more challenging. We are seeking technologies that will allow the stability of proteins to be enhanced and will also allow a drastic reduction or elimination of interactions with other proteins and formulation components.
  
  All encapsulation based technologies must protect in formulation but have a mechanism to trigger release of its payload when needed. Triggers of interest are dilution, formulation solubility, ionic strength, surfactant concentration, enzymes. Encapsulation technologies should be fast triggered and they must in addition demonstrate full segregation of the enzyme/protein until the initiation of the trigger (i.e. no leakage of active.)

  Pristinamycin (INN) (CAS No：270076-60-3), also spelled pristinamycine, is an antibiotic used primarily in the treatment of staphylococcal infections, and to a lesser extent streptococcal infections. It is a streptogramin group antibiotic, similar to virginiamycin, derived from the bacterium Streptomyces pristinaespiralis. It is marketed in Europe by Sanofi-Aventis under the trade name Synercid and Pyostacine.
  
  Pristinamycin is a mixture of two components that have a synergistic antibacterial action. Pristinamycin IA is a macrolide, and results in pristinamycin having a similar spectrum of action to erythromycin. Pristinamycin IIA (streptogramin A) is a depsipeptide.[1] PI and PII are coproduced by S. pristinaespiralis in a ratio of 30:70.
  
  Each compound binds to the bacterial 50 S ribosomal subunit and inhibits the elongation process of the protein synthesis, thereby exhibiting only a moderate bacteriostatic activity. Clinicuse：Despite the macrolide component, it is effective against erythromycin-resistant staphylococci and strepcococci.[3][4] Importantly, it is active against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Its usefulness for severe infections, however, may be limited by the lack of an intravenous formulation owing to its poor solubility.[5] Nevertheless it is sometimes used as an alternative to rifampicin+fusidic acid or linezolid for the treatment of MRSA.
  
  We’re looking for a technology of Pristinamycin based on fermentation. Both of the strain and the process are included. The strain should have productivity of more than 5000u/ml (harvest fermentation titre). It’s better that the technology including the strain has been commercialized at industrial scale fermentor.   We are actively searching for academic and commercial partners working in the area of dehairing of animal skins and hides. Dehairing is one of the pre-tanning processes used to prepare leather, and involves removing the hair attached to the hides and skins. Current solutions involve the use of toxic chemicals (e.g. lime and sodium sulphide) which completely dissolve the hair and whilst these chemicals are effective, they are unpleasant to use and result in wastewater that requires further treatment.

  Hair is composed primarily of keratin, a fibrous and insoluble protein – cysteine disulphide bonds link the protein chains to give hair its strength, and breaking these bonds makes the hair disintegrate. Dehairing solutions must remove the hair from the skin, but not destroy or modify the skin collagen (another type of fibrous protein) structure below. This is especially important for ‘young’, delicate or expensive hides for high-end applications.
  Our client is searching for solutions that are safe to use, environmentally friendly and quickly remove hair without damaging the skin below. Solutions providing keratin degradation or allow removal of hair intact from the skin are both of interest. Proposed technologies should provide the following:-
  
   Able to dissolve, disintegrate or somehow destroy various types of fibrous protein
   Non-activity upon collagen (i.e. avoid damage of the skin)
   pH values to stay between 4 and 10
   Operating temperature below 50⁰C
   Remove hair quickly (<12 hours)
   Concept proven, and ideally with data to show efficacy
   IP protection – patents, know-how, etc
  
  Solutions could come from the following ideas or industries:-
   Novel keratinase from bacteria
   Enzymatic (e.g. protease) dehairing
   Microbial degradation of keratinous waste (e.g. poultry processing)
   Chemistry to break the di-sulphide bonds in keratin
   Food industry – tenderising proteins, etc
   Material / fibre science research
   Life sciences - peptide research
   Medical – wound care
   Personal care – depilatories
  
  Our client is a global manufacturer and is willing to explore any reasonable commercial arrangements, including licensing, distribution, joint development, R&D relationships and acquisitions.
